Dear Parents/Carers,

JULY 2020

We are writing to update you about the arrangements for when we return to pre-school in September.

The Government guidelines have been updated and we have adapted our arrangements accordingly.  We have been advised to follow the guidance on the actions that early years settings must take – called the System of Controls.  These will effectively reduce the risks in our setting and create an inherently safer environment and are set out in more detail at the end of this letter.

We are pleased to let you know that our sessions will return to normal in September, running from 9-12 noon on Mondays to Fridays with an optional daily lunch club from 12noon to 1pm. We no longer have to divide the pre-school into small ‘bubbles’ of children although, of course, we will continue to focus on the measures that will help limit the risk of transmitting the coronavirus within our setting.

Unfortunately, adults are still not permitted to enter the building in an effort to further protect children and staff.  When we first introduced this procedure we were very worried that some children would find this quite traumatic but the children have adapted unbelievably well and we are so proud of them!  We hope this continues in September but we realise it may be very challenging for our new families.  We are going to suggest that children who are new to Priory View arrive slightly later - at around 9.30am.  By this time the area at the front of the hall will be less noisy and confusing and the process will hopefully be less stressful for everyone.  It will also be very helpful if you could talk to your child about this in the days leading up to them attending as this will ease the process.

We will still be outside for a good part of the session and would ask you to ensure that your child is prepared and dressed appropriately – suncream or warm clothes etc.

For your information, our first day back is Tuesday, 1st September.  Half term is the week beginning Monday 26th October – Friday 30th October and we break up for Christmas on Friday, 11th December.

We set out below more details about the System of Controls – this is the set of actions that early years settings must take to reduce risks in settings:-

System of controls

1) minimise contact with individuals who are unwell by ensuring that those who have coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, or who have someone in their household who does, do not attend settings

2) clean hands thoroughly more often than usual

3) ensure good respiratory hygiene by promoting the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach

4) introduce enhanced cleaning, including cleaning frequently touched surfaces often using standard products, such as detergents and bleach

5) minimise contact between groups where possible

6) where necessary, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

Numbers 1 to 4 must be in place in all settings, all the time.

Number 5 must be properly considered and settings must put in place measures that suit their particular circumstances.

Number 6 applies in all specific circumstances.

Response to any infection:

7) engage with the NHS Track and Trace process

8) manage confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) amongst the setting community

9) contain any outbreak by following local health protection team advice

Numbers 7 to 9 must be followed in every case where they are relevant.

Full details on the system of controls is set out in the Government guidance document……Actions for Early Years and Childcare Providers During the Coronavirus.

Please do not hesitate to contact us via email preferably if you have any queries or concerns. We would like to take this opportunity to wish you a safe and happy summer holiday break.

Kind regards

The Priory View Team.
